ISOLA DI CAPRI

SORRENTO AREA

The magnificent natural scenery makes the Sorrento Peninsula one of the most famous tourist sites in Italy. Stretching out into the Tyrrhenian sea almost touching the Isle of Capri, it extends from Castellammare di Stabia to Punta Campanella, an outcrop between the gulfs of Naples and Salerno. VESUVIAN AREA

The Vesuvius National Park was founded in 1991 and declared a "World Biosphere Reserve" by UNESCO: it includes the entire area of the volcano, the great archaeological system of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, and the Golden Mile with the most splendid examples of 18th and 19th century villas. On 24 August 79 AD Vesuvius woke up after a very long sleep, taking the people of the Vesuvian area by surprise.
